Vehicle Custom Fields

Choose useful extra vehicle details and decide which ones shoppers can see.

Vehicle custom fields are extra boxes for details that do not fit the regular vehicle form. They can help your team track information such as key count, service records, equipment packages, or lot location.

Some fields can also appear on your storefront and Window Sticker.

Choose what shoppers should see

Good public fields answer a buying question that the regular vehicle details do not already cover.

Extra detailSuggested use
Key CountShow after you confirm the number
Service RecordsShow when the wording is accurate
Equipment PackageShow after inspecting the vehicle
CertificationShow only when the claim can be supported
Lot LocationKeep inside the dealership
Preparation StatusKeep inside the dealership

Use the regular DealerSpot fields for make, model, mileage, condition, title status, fuel type, and other vehicle specifications.

How a field reaches the storefront

A custom vehicle detail can appear to shoppers when:

  1. The vehicle is Listed.
  2. The vehicle belongs to the storefront's branch.
  3. The field is shown on that vehicle.
  4. Show on your website is enabled.
  5. The field has an answer.

The same shown and public settings are used for the vehicle page and Window Sticker.

Check every public detail

A public field can shape a shopper's expectations. Confirm the answer and make sure the wording is clear before enabling Show on your website.

Keep private details out of custom fields

A storefront filter may match a listed vehicle even when that field is hidden on the vehicle page. Do not use custom fields for private locations, security details, or sensitive information.

Keep filter choices simple

Storefront filters use the exact answers saved on vehicles. Small wording differences create separate choices.

For example, Tow Package, Towing Package, and Tow pkg would appear as different answers. Choose one version and use it on every vehicle.

Public answers should be:

  • Short and easy to scan
  • Clear to a shopper
  • Consistent in spelling and units
  • Free from dealership shorthand
  • Accurate for that vehicle

Add a new vehicle field

  1. Open a vehicle and go to Details > Custom Fields > Manage.
  2. Search for an existing field before creating a new one.
  3. Check whether the regular vehicle form already covers the detail.
  4. Give the field a short, clear name.
  5. Try it on a few vehicles without showing it publicly.
  6. Check the Inventory filter and Window Sticker.
  7. Enable Show on your website only after you confirm the answer.
  8. Review the vehicle on the storefront.

Adding a field to one vehicle does not add it to every vehicle. Each vehicle keeps its own answer and public setting.

Change or remove a field

Changing a field name or moving it affects how that field is shown across vehicle records. Hiding it or deleting its answer affects only the vehicle you are working on.

Remove hides the field on the current vehicle but keeps its saved answer. Delete erases the answer from the current vehicle after you save. It does not erase answers from other vehicles.

Before changing a field name, check listed vehicles that use it and review the storefront and Window Sticker again.

Review public fields regularly

Check public custom fields before listing a vehicle and whenever its equipment, condition, or included items change. Look for old answers, duplicate filter choices, dealership-only details, and claims that are no longer correct.
